Italy’s Suonho delivers a massive 4-on-the-floor mix drenched in a slab of jazz-phat-nastiness. Also hailing from Italy, Henkjazzy and Mr Tilt comes on strong flippin the original into suave jazz-fusion number full of organic elements. Poland’s Ortalio then takes the original deep into nu jazz territory keepin the vibe smokey, dark and hazy. Additional remixes come from Brooklyn’s Izzy Azwell, UK’s Homegroove Project and Paris-based Monsieur Greg – all stellar mixes that give Kahuun’s original a unique twist.

BRZZLL is a seven piece fusion band from Antwerp, Belgium. Seven young musicians playing psychedelic jazz and funk with a modern twist. Their new album “Happy Life Creator” (mixed by UK jazz kingpin Ben Lamdin aka Nostalgia 77 (Tru Thougts)) will be released in Autumn 2010. Born the only son of a Baptist preacher and registered nurse in St. Louis, Aaron Michael Frison, known to the public as Coultrain, was exposed to a multitude of musical genres starting with gospel, then from Blues to Jazz. He credits his parents, and their upbringing as major attributes to his gift, as well as his stern integrity. The stories Coultrain’s father preached would eventually find their way into his own growth and style. The tone his mother carried in her angelic voice would characterize his tone, hence the heavy gospel influence in Coultrain’s vocal texture as well as the message. Everett James began his musical journey 30 years ago in Asheville North Carolina. Born in to a musical family he learned the art from his father and performed with his sister throughout his life. He has evolved in to a composer, songwriter, producer, performer, and entrepreneur with 735 Music LLC a media company aimed at creating and challenging urban alternative music and culture. Since 2000, Everett has built a catalogue of works that he writes, produces, and performs, and engineers at Electronika Studios located in Atlanta, Georgia. Everett plays all the instrumentation on his productions layering instrument track by track. He often plays bass, guitar, keys, and drums through out his projects. He has recorded with George Clinton, toured with Maseo Parker, hit guitar solos on the stage of the Fillmore West, walked the open mics in the NYC village, and played drums through out Europe with Stacy Epps. He continues to push forward using his training in composition to compose for film and his entrepreneurial skills to establish 735 Music in the market as an innovator in urban alternative culture. Build An Ark

Following up last year’s acclaimed LP Love, Carlos Nino and Build An Ark bring their mostly improvisational companion album: Love Part 2. A lot of the music for both LPs was recorded as part of the same sessions. But while the two records are related musically, they’re quite different. Love Part 2 might share the same dynamic range as its predecessor, but there’s a decidedly looser lean – with more improvised passages, soul-jazz vocals, and hypnotic Reichian movements. Drawing from an ocean of influences such as Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys, Swamini Truiyasangitanada’s Monastic Trio, Charlie Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Sun Ra and Stevie Wonder, Onotea is a new frontier for Georgia Anne Muldrow’s sonic discoveries. She is appearing as Jyoti ( meaning light in Sanskrit) in all of her jazz recordings to come, paying homage to the great and masterful ancestor Alice Coltrane who gifted her with this name shortly before she ascended into an even higher consciousness. Droppin’ Mirrors

Independent German label ThinkLound presents Droppin’ Mirrors is a musical cross-section of past collaborations, as well as a glimpse of projects to come. The compilation contains almost nothing but exclusive productions. These are the natural result of joint shows with, and tours managed by ThinkLoud’s DJ Conikt across Germany and Europe. They managed to get artists like Aloe Blacc (Stones Throw), Kev Brown (Up Above), Grand Agent (Superrappin’) and Oddisee (Diamond District) on board. At the same time, young and talented artists like Portformat, Shuanise, Fid Mella, and others have found their way onto the album. They embody the very sound ThinkLoud are aiming for. A major portion of the songs were composed by in-house producer Stroe, and recorded together with the guest artists in Berlin. The result is a genre-crossing product that transcends its roots in Rap, Experimental, and neo-Soul. With a catalogue that is unmatched by many, Moka Only is often considered to be a pioneer and driving force behind Canadian West Coast hip hop, as well as an important component in popularizing the art of freestyling in Victoria and Vancouver. In the 13+ years since his debut, Moka Only has released more than 40 albums, both solo and collaborative. He records under a variety of aliases, with the most popular being Ron Contour, Flow Torch and The Durable Mammal. He has been a contributing member of numerous groups and collectives, including Perfect Strangers, Code Name: Scorpion, Cryptic Souls Crew, The Dominant Mammals, City Planners, Nowfolk and Swollen Members, along with many others. Flying Lotus

Cosmogramma is the follow up to the critically acclaimed ‘Los Angeles’ album and firmly establishes (if there was any doubt) FlyLo’s credentials as THE trendsetting experimental beatmaker out there right now. Speaking about the album he admits “Things have definitely got bigger…‘Cosmogramma’ needed to be wider and have more scope. One of the main reasons was that after my last record came out I started hearing a bunch of stuff that was trying to sound like that record. It was really frustrating for me. I was like, ‘Ah man, why are these kids all trying to bite this shit?’ So I was like, ‘If these kids can make music like this then maybe I should go and expand all my ideas and make it all wider’. I wanted to make the record I have been dreaming about making.”

Parisian DJ and beatmaker Onra releases his album ‘Long Distance’. The 80s boogie influence is evident from the tunes we have already featured on the show (High Hopes feat Reggie B and the title track feat OlivierDaySoul). Africa Hitech

Africa Hitech = Mark Pritchard + Steve Spacek. Africa Hitech is more than a name; it is an ideology – one that embodies its member’s passions for an eclectic diaspora of electronic styles, from dub and acid to UK garage, grime, techno, house and Jamaican dancehall. This pair always do damage when they get together (remember ‘Turn It On’ from 2007?) and ‘The Sound of Tomorrow’ continues the bass fuelled carnage. The Prosoulytes

The Prosoulytes is the fruit of a chance encounter between two individuals with a thirst for soul. Not necessarily soul as in soul music, but rather soul as a medium to create music that comes from the heart. Percussionist/keyboard player Moyo was born and raised in Paris, where he got his training as a classical/modern classical percussionist and drummer. His teenage years were spent trying to find his own way through his parents collection of classical and jazz records while nurturing his love for hiphop and electronic music. Breakplus, from Geneva, a young and hungry deejay, beatmaker and record collector. They started making music together out of fun and a common love for what is sweet but still bangs. It’s only later that they realized that how much Moyo needed Breakplus’s raw chops and dirty samples, and how much Breakplus needed Moyo’s funky chords and deeply soulful undertones.

This labour of love resulted in a four track EP packed full of flavour with interventions from artists met across Europe. Although The Prosoulytes are very proud to bring you their “Springtime EP”, they are working very hard on the next projects and will tell anyone who asks that this is only the beginning…

The Earlyman

The Earlyman is the brain-child of Ed Cavill, co-producer & guitarist of the seminal soul/ trip-hop outfit Spacek. Championed whilst in Spacek by Gilles Peterson – receiving heavy play on Radio 1 & initially spotted by Mos Def, Ed went on to be signed to Island Records. He is now sole producer of the project “The Earlyman” releasing a selection of EP’s on the east London based label StopStart Records.

The album “Lola Una” features some of the hottest MC talent of the moment including past Futuristic Sounds Radio show guest Trevor Goodchilde. Check out ‘Scene’ feat Trevor below

A beautiful, subtle slice of jazz and folk-inflected soul, ‘Lost Where I Belong’ is effortless-but-understated. The remix as featured on today’s comes from sometime associate and collaborator Flying Lotus who takes the original vocal out into the (LA) galaxy – all space fizzes and filtered drums. Another great release from the guys over at Melting Pot Music. This time it’s Gin Diaries from Suff Daddy. There are thousands of beatmaking Dilla clones on MySpace but only one Suff Daddy. “Suff” means “drinking heavy” in German and his favourite drinks are Pilsetten and Tanqueray. Suff Daddy grew up in Düsseldorf (the city of Kraftwerk), listening to the 90s hip-hop-collection of his older brother. His favourite group back than were Tha Alkaholics. He caught the beatbug after he moved to Berlin five years ago, inspired by Quasimoto and Jaylib.

Suite For Ma Dukes is the second installment of Timeless, a four-part series honoring the legacy of renowned composers. Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and his 40 piece orchestra roused the audience to its feet during the evening with his re-creation of J Dilla’s best known works.

Surprise guests took their place upon the stage throughout the night, including Common, Talib Kweli, Posdnous from De la Soul, Bilal, Amp Fiddler, Dwele and many more to pay tribute, not only to Dilla’s musical influence left upon the world, but his mother, Ma Dukes. Small in stature, Ma Dukes is a true inspiration, a towering beacon of spirit, love and music.

“The concert is a celebration of J Dilla’s life, what he loved and what inspired him. It is a show of support, appreciation and love for his incredible mother Maureen Yancey, whom I recently had the sincere pleasure of meeting and sitting down with. What’s Nu

In early 2006 two leading Dutch representatives, Monsieur Dubois and State Of Monc, initiated a new platform to establish, enpower and expand the scene they are both part of: Nu-Jazz. In the process, two other groups joined in: Flowriders and Jazzinvaders.

By founding The Dutch Nu Jazz Movement the bands involved like to acknowledge this growing development in jazz music, point out its relevance and create an organization that brings Dutch Nu Jazz to a larger public in and outside The Netherlands.

The compilation ‘Whats Nu’ is released on 24 March

From Stetsasonic to Gang Starr to Madlib, it is not an easy path to follow, but the 26 year old producer is adding a new and fresh style to it. The sound design of Dexter’s “Jazz Files” is dusty but with an unmistakable 2010 twist. As much inspired by Wes Montgomery and Ramsey Lewis as by Sun Ra and Dave Pike, Dexter’s tracks are never just “jazzy”. They live and breathe jazz by combining the freedom and artisty of jazz with the craft of a free-thinking beatsmith.

And the “Jazz Files” are fun too. By implanting quotes an samples from interviews and tv shows such as the classic NBC program “The Subject Is Jazz”, Dexter is telling his own little story of jazz. One that had it’s starting point in the massive record collection of his father and grew into shape during a long hot summer blasting nothing but Ahmad Jamal and Sun Ra.

Dwele – Keep RIZEing To The Top

Dwele’s demo, which is also considered his first album, 1998’s Rize, was sold out of the trunk of his car exuding the DIY ethic that is much more predominant nowadays but wasn’t as prevalent then. Bubbling over with warm Rhodes, unconventional lyrics and soul, soul, soul it helped him score a deal with Virgin where he… released his first studio album Subject. He’s continued to release albums since then and has become an industry favorite.

In between recordings, he stayed in the studio banging out treats for his friends, fans and potential albums. A lot of these tracks have never seen an official release, yet they fell through the cracks and onto the computers of voracious listeners. To download visit BamaLoveSoul
