Wundah
Joe Grime’s pick for Ones To Watch is London based producer/songwriter/artist Wundah
Originally from Trinidad & Tobago he moved to the UK in 2000, initially looking at music as a hobby. After starting his career as a rapper he found himself turning his hand to production; teaching himself production skills and setting up his own facility (now known as Blessed Youth Studios). He has worked alongside the likes of General Levy & J-Rock & Randy (Formerly Of Big Brovaz) as well as lesser know unsigned acts.
In developing his production style Wundah drew from his upbringing in Trinidad producing many different genres ranging from hip hop, pop, alternative and dance music. It was during this period he also found his true voice and began DJ-ing Jamaican Style on choruses of hip hop tracks.
Wundah produced the Flash Forward dancehall riddim which featured a number of UK artists (Stylo G, Lea-Anna, Lante, etc) alongside established artists such as Capleton & Sizzla.
Wundah is currently working on projects with Brinsley Forde (Aswad), Lea-Anna, Lante, G Starr, Thai Matic & Cartz and also has 3 new riddims already prepared for release early this year which I’m certain will have the same impact as his previous releases.
You can find more info on Wundah online:
TonyAs
Musician/rapper turned singer/songwriter, TonyAs is DJ Fury’s One To Watch In 2011. Formerly known as the Saint TonyAs, he has taken it one step further opting to strip it bare, go back to basics, whereas theSaint was a straight talking hiphop artist, TonyAs the musician has embraced other influences and as well as rapping also sings, adding another dimension to his works.
As a musician the style is charismatic, easy listening emotional type music, in his own words ‘he wants people listening to be able to feel what he’s saying to empathise, whether having experienced it or witnessed the content of his verses’. Sound wise it’s fundamentally hip hop though his evolution as an artist has lead to incorporations of reggae, soul, funk and other such genres. Lyrics are still his forte if you like, and he prides himself on being a vivid and lyricist.
2011 promises to be an interesting year as his SexDrugsPoetry brand grows from strength to strength, there’s the music, the ‘Y Is It’ articles and videos that TonyAs himself produces. 2011 will see also the release of his ‘introducing TonyAs’ mixtape. Singles to look out for ‘Back Into My Groove’, ‘Real Money’ and ‘Luving It’. Definitely One To Watch!!!

Unlike a lot of producers he is prepared to take risks and has innovated new sounds and beat patterns.
